Credit Unions Pay Their Respects to Mr. Arnold Paulson
The Credit Union Association of the Dakotas and credit unions across the Dakotas were saddened to hear about the passing of Arnold Paulson, former President of the North Dakota Credit Union League (1973 to 1994). Mr. Paulson, age 84, Woodbury, MN died peacefully with family members by his side on Wednesday night, March 6, 2013 in a Woodbury, MN hospital.
Upon his retirement from the League on February 1, 1994, Mr. Paulson was interviewed. When asked what his wish for credit unions in the future was, Mr. Paulson replied, “I would wish that credit unions would become the premier provider of financial needs for ALL people. This will entail getting the message across to the world that our special status IS NOT that we are limited as to who we serve, but that we are in the business of helping people, and that includes everyone.”
A memorial service was held in Clark, SD on Monday, March 11. There is an on-line registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com, where condolence messages may be left for the family.
Mr. Paulson’s distinguished credit union career continues to be exemplified and honored by a scholarship fund which grants an award to an honored recipient to attend the annual Summit, therefore continuing their credit union education. The Arnold Paulson Scholarship Fund was created in honor of Mr. Paulson at the time of his retirement as President of the NDCUL and Affiliates in 1994. The family has requested that memorials go to the Arnold Paulson Scholarship Fund, an amazing and generous testament to his love and commitment to the credit union movement. Questions about the Arnold Paulson Scholarship Fund may be addressed to Karla Clark at kclark@cuad.coop.
