As we reported in the Memo last October, one of the events that Dakota Plains Credit Union held to celebrate CO-OP Month was a fundraiser for Enderlin’s Fire Department. The credit union held a free will donation during their co-op meal in Enderlin on October 12th

Working with Plains Grain and Agronomy, the organizations were able to raise enough money to purchase a Grain Rescue Tube. This is an important piece of equipment for this agricultural area. A person can be trapped and suffocated in flowing grain within a matter of minutes. The rescue tube can be used to surround the victim, holding back the grain so rescue crews can free the trapped person.

The idea for this particular fundraiser came from Dakota Plains Loan Officer, Cindy Hanson. Cindy’s family has been directly affected by this type of tragedy, as they lost a very close family friend in just such an accident. Cindy says that being involved in this community effort helped her to deal with the loss. Something good, no matter how small, came out of that tragedy.
